MEET THE HEWITTS

Ben and Beth Hewitt

Ben and Beth Hewitt are planting Church in the Valley in Knoxville, Tennessee—the seventh church planted in the Well Church Network since 2016. For the past two years, Ben has served in pastoral residency at Church at the Oaks in Tuscaloosa, Alabama (the third church plant in the Well Network), where he has been equipped for the work of church planting. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching after earning his Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Ben and Beth met while attending Samford University and were married in 2020. They have two children: Emmy (3) and Shepherd (8 months). Beth currently serves in as the children’s director at Oaks and is prayerfully seeking teaching opportunities in Knoxville.

Knoxville represents both a tremendous opportunity and a significant spiritual need. The Knoxville metro area is home to more than 950,000 people, including over 50,000 students at the University of Tennessee alone. Studies indicate that more than 75% of college students are disengaged from a local church. Despite Knoxville’s location in the Bible Belt, many residents—students and families alike—do not have a meaningful connection to a gospel-centered, disciple-making church.

Ben and Beth are passionate about seeing God establish a church that is deeply rooted in the gospel and driven by the Great Commission—committed not only to reaching Knoxville, but to sending disciples to the nations. Their prayer is that Church in the Valley would be used by God to ignite a multiplying movement of disciples made and sent for His glory.

SENDING DISCPLE-MAKERS OF JESUS, BY BEING DISCIPLE-MAKERS OF JESUS.

WHY KNOXVILLE?

We have long sensed a call to give our lives to making disciples and multiplying the Church in university cities. After years of prayer, preparation, and pastoral ministry, God has made it clear that Knoxville is where He is sending us. We are planting Church in the Valley in Knoxville with one simple hope — to see lives transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ. This city, and especially the University of Tennessee, is home to tens of thousands of people in need of the hope of the Gospel, and community of the church. Despite being surrounded by churches, many in Knoxville are disconnected from the Church, unfamiliar with the gospel, or unsure of what it truly means to follow and live as a disciple of Jesus.

WHY THE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS?

80% of college students will be disengaged from their faith and involvement in church. The campus is in dire need of Gospel-centered biblical discipleship.

Why UTK? The University of Tennessee has 38,000+ students alone, making Knoxville a launchpad for future leaders, missionaries, and church-planters. The University of Tennessee also has over 6,804 freshmen per year, creating a major need for Gospel-driven, Community-centered, Great Commission-focused churches. Church in the Valley will be the seventh plant in the Well Church Network and the first in the state of Tennessee. Our previous six church plants have seen God move in incredible ways. We are continuing to witness souls being saved and disciples being sent.
